Yiorgos Boudouris began Acts of Greatness with a simple idea – he wanted to make a difference. This is his story.
In the fall of 2013, I read in a student newspaper about the lack of educational awards for LGBTQ youth. As a gay man myself, I’m well aware of the unique challenges of growing up LGBTQ. To live our best lives, confidence is critical and support from your community helps you feel empowered. I decided to fund a one-time award for local LGBTQ high school students going on to post-secondary school.
It felt great to be giving back to my community. I met so many inspirational people during this first project. I knew I had to start looking for more long-term ways to support the LGBTQ community. And so Acts of Greatness was born.
How can we empower all people in the LGBTQ community?
Since launching in January 2014, Acts of Greatness is building a community of support. We bring people together to recognize leaders in the LGBTQ community, empower our next generation of LGBTQ leaders, celebrate our accomplishments and tell each other’s stories. We share the acts of greatness happening in our communities every day so they can inspire others to even greater acts.
Being who you were born to be is true empowerment. And showing up and being yourself is indeed an act of greatness.
Here’s to all those folks.
Outpost Supply is an online store that works with designers who share their passion for creative expression and who are equally wanting to empower LGBTQ youth to be who they were born to be.
That's why 50% of all Outpost Supply's profits go to our community awards program.

"Everyone has a story to share. But what if yours didn’t quite fit in with societal norms? What if your story made some people uncomfortable and unfortunately cruel? Would you still share it?"
"Tired of hearing only the stereotypes of a province that’s redneck and conservative, project co-ordinator Yiorgos Boudouris, 30, set out to interview 100 members of the LGBT community to paint a more authentic picture."
"When it comes to celebrating gay culture in Canada, Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver usually get the lion’s share of attention. It’s, well, fabulous to see Alberta’s own take centre stage….and we look forward to additional participants!"
"Youth who come out are resilient and vibrant individuals with strong spirits and full of colourful spirit."
"'Fabulous Alberta is all about love,' says Acts of Greatness founder Yiorgos Boudouris."
